More from the neighbors on wind power

I had a great conversation with a neighbor today about my plans to install wind power here at home. She had an interesting point about putting together a complete residential wind turbine program for all of the homes in the neighborhood.

We compared electric bills–mine’s about $250/month, hers is closer to $350–and talked about how much electricity we’d need to generate with wind power in order to make a dent in the power bills of all residents here. From what I’ve learned so far, if her bill is average, it’d actually be pretty doable to generate about 50% of all the energy our entire neighborhood needs with just one residential wind turbine. We have a several acre greenspace in the community, and her thought was that we might be able to get the county to sign off on our developing a large wind power turbine.

It’s an interesting thought, for sure. I’m not entirely certain what’s involved with building such a large wind turbine, so needless to say I didn’t say, “Yes! Let’s make it happen!” but I do think she and I will have future conversations about the possibilities of wind power for our neighborhood and whether or not such a big project makes sense.

Also, in other exciting news, two of my articles were accepted over at EzineArticles which is a great site full of top quality content. To say I’m flattered is an understatement–they obviously felt that I had something important to say in my pieces on residential wind power, and I’m really thrilled to now be among their authors.
